Recap from last week...

Here was the agenda from last week. After hearing from a few ENGAGED parents, I want to provide a terminology "KEY" in order to help you understanding the abbreviations in the agenda.

O: Represents opening, which is how we begin the day, usually something to get the student focused and ready to learn.

WS: Represents the work session, which is the main topic/activity for the day (this will usually be facilitated by the teach, but driven by students).

CL; Represents the closing, which is the end of the class when we try to make sure that students leave with proper understanding of the lesson.

HW: you guessed it, represents Homework, which is usually for them to watch a video and take notes.

NHWF's: Represents "NO HOMEWORK FRIDAY'S".

Where we have been and where we are headed...

Last week...

We investigated how to solve problems using a scientific thought process "Scientific Method". Students worked as architects in order to rebuild a space craft shuttle launch tower for NASA (using only spaghetti noodles and spice drops)

We learned how to determine if objects were living or nonliving based on the Characteristics of Life and learned the functions of the Compound Light Microscope.

This week...

Students will discover the significance of cells and how they help keep organisms living. How the cell parts work together. We will explain why perfume moves slowly through the air and slowly but surely everyone can smell it in a room. We will begin our semester long Web Design Contest that will yield a Breakfast and Pizza for the ENTIRE class (based on contest rules) and finally Create a multimedia Cell's Metaphor Children's Book.
Stay tuned...
